Because
Logistics Means Progress, Efficiency and
Effectiveness.
Manufacturers are in daily need of a
faster and problem-free production process
under the gradually intensifying competition
conditions of today's global economy.
The Supply Chain Management (SCM), which
plays an important role in meeting this
need, puts together the process of planning,
shipment, transportation, customs clearance,
storing, handling, packaging and distribution.
Right at this point, the concept of "logistics"
is put into use in order to meet the customer
needs within the process of a supply chain.
According to Council of Logistics Management
(CLM), logistics is that part of the supply
chain process that plans, implements,
and controls the efficient, effective
forward and reverse flow and storage of
goods, services, and related information
between the point of origin and the point
of consumption in order to meet customers'
requirements.
This broad definition of logistics emphasizes
the positive sides of working with a logistics
firm supplying down to earth "global
logistic services" and the advantages
of cooperation with such firms. It also
states that the main objective of a logistics
partner is to create a "value
chain" which contains common
systems and mutual communication of variable
information.
It is observed that especially multi-national
companies try to determine their non-core
activities and outsource them to logistics
firms, in order to obtain a competitive
edge by reducing their costs. However,
despite all the advantages, we know that
many firms try to handle their logistics
activities within their own organizations
in the national Turkish market.
Yet, working with a logistics partner
enables the manufacturers to transfer
all the liabilities that occur throughout
the logistic process to the logistics
firm, thereby leaving them to focus solely
on their core business activities. A logistics
cooperation established with a firm which
is capable of supplying down to earth
door-to-door services, provides invaluable
opportunities such as accessing all the
documents and information within the logistic
process from a single source, decreasing
the storage costs and optimizing the stock
levels. Eventually, the need to employ
logistics personnel is eliminated and
all the risks of loss, accident, theft,
damages and delay which might happen during
shipment or stock handling can easily
be transferred to the logistics firm.
